What can I do for free?
Candlelight, the free plan, includes 30 messages a day, up to 10 voiced replies a day (up to 1,500 characters of each reply) and up to 3 active companions. Browse original characters, write your own and export your chats and characters. No card and no ads. The allowance resets at midnight UTC; the app shows the reset in your time zone.
Are these real people?
No. The characters are fictional and their replies are generated by AI. NYVELLE is for stories and entertainment; characters do not have feelings and their replies can be mistaken.
Can I choose the kind of story?
Yes. Explore romance, fantasy, adventure and everyday settings, or write your own character. Your messages shape the conversation. The hosted NYVELLE app uses safe-for-work content rules.
Can I choose who I am in the story?
Yes. In Your profiles, set the name characters call you, your pronouns and a short note about you. You can keep several profiles and choose one for each companion. Profiles are optional.
Can I hear the replies?
Yes. With voice on, the character speaks each new reply as it arrives. The free plan voices up to 10 replies a day and covers up to 1,500 characters of each reply; paid plans include more voiced replies. With gems, a voiced reply costs 1 gem per started 1,000 characters of the reply, charged once per reply.
Can I take my chats with me?
Yes. Export your chats and characters from the app. Character exports use Character Card V2. You can also download an encrypted backup protected by a passphrase you choose. Keep that passphrase safe.
Who can use NYVELLE?
The app is for adults aged 21 and over. Eligibility is confirmed during signup. The marketing artwork is safe for work; the product's age requirement still applies.
What do the paid plans add?
Moonlight ($4.99 a month), Velvet ($11.99) and Starlight ($24.99) add a monthly allowance of messages, voiced replies and images (images start when image creation opens in the app), a longer conversation memory and more active companions; Velvet and Starlight add premium-model replies (coming soon). Each is also sold yearly. Daily caps and fair-use limits apply: after unusually heavy use a plan switches to relaxed mode, and if a month's use ever reaches the plan's full allowance, plan messages pause until the next monthly reset while your free daily messages and any gems keep working. Plans renew until you cancel, and you can cancel online anytime in Account → Manage billing. See pricing for every number.
What happens after my 30 free messages?
Your 30 free messages come back every day at 00:00 UTC (midnight UTC; the app shows that time in your time zone). Messages are used in this order: free daily messages first, then your plan's messages if you have a membership, then gems. When all of them are used up, wait for the daily reset, or buy gems or a membership to keep chatting now. Reading and export stay available.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Open the hosted app in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
Which AI and voices does it use?
Replies use DeepSeek V4 Flash through DeepInfra. Character voices use Kokoro. AI responses can be inaccurate; do not use them as professional advice.
